With more than two decades of experience in international education consultancy, Exotic International supports Bangladeshi students throughout their study abroad journey. Our experienced team provides personalized assistance with university and programme selection, admission applications, documentation, scholarship guidance, and the China student visa process from Bangladesh.

Why Study in China?

China welcomes qualified international students to apply directly to universities, through appropriate scholarship channels, or through recognized study-in-China application routes. Students can choose from degree, language, exchange, and research programmes offered by institutions located in major education and technology centres such as Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Xi’an, Tianjin, and many other cities.

  • A broad selection of bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, Chinese-language, and non-degree programmes
  • English-taught and Chinese-taught options, depending on the programme
  • Strong academic opportunities in engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, business, medicine, agriculture, and research
  • Access to modern laboratories, technology-focused campuses, and industry-connected learning environments at many universities
  • Chinese Government Scholarship and university-specific scholarship opportunities for eligible applicants
  • Experience in one of Asia’s largest education, manufacturing, technology, and business environments
  • Opportunities to develop Chinese-language ability and international professional networks

Study Levels and Typical Programme Duration

The exact duration depends on the university, subject, curriculum, and language of instruction. China’s official Ministry of Education information gives the following general study-duration framework, but applicants must confirm the duration shown on the selected university’s current programme page:

  • Bachelor’s degree: commonly 4–5 years; some programmes, especially medicine or architecture-related programmes, may be longer.
  • Master’s degree: commonly 2–3 years.
  • Doctoral degree: commonly 3 years or longer, depending on research and graduation requirements.
  • Chinese-language or non-degree programme: duration varies from short-term study to one academic year or longer.

Students can review the official Chinese Ministry of Education information on applying to study in China. Programme-specific duration and conditions should always be confirmed directly with the university.

Popular Fields of Study in China

Programme availability and teaching language differ between universities. Popular fields for international students include:

  • Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence
  • Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Automotive Engineering
  • Business Administration, International Business, Finance, Economics, and Management
  • Medicine, Public Health, Pharmacy, Biomedical Science, and related health disciplines
  • Agriculture, Food Science, Environmental Science, and Biotechnology
  • International Relations, Public Administration, Law, and Development Studies
  • Chinese Language, Chinese Studies, Translation, and Asian Studies
  • Architecture, Urban Planning, Design, Media, and Fine Arts

Important note for medical applicants: Students considering an English-taught medical programme should verify the university’s current authorization, programme language, clinical-training arrangements, internship rules, tuition fees, and recognition requirements in the country where they intend to practise. A university’s general recognition does not automatically confirm professional licensing eligibility.

Requirements to Study in China from Bangladesh

Admission requirements are set by each university and may vary according to study level, subject, scholarship route, and language of instruction. Bangladeshi applicants will generally need to prepare the following:

1. Appropriate Academic Qualification

  • For a bachelor’s programme, applicants generally need a recognized higher secondary or equivalent qualification.
  • For a master’s programme, applicants generally need a recognized bachelor’s degree.
  • For a doctoral programme, applicants generally need a relevant master’s degree.

Universities may also set minimum grades and subject prerequisites. Engineering, computing, science, and medical programmes may require a suitable background in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or other relevant subjects.

2. Academic Certificates and Transcripts

Applicants may need to submit certificates, mark sheets, transcripts, grading information, and proof of expected graduation if the final qualification has not yet been issued. Documents not in Chinese or English may require an official or notarized Chinese or English translation, depending on the university or scholarship instructions.

3. Valid Passport and Nationality Documents

A valid ordinary passport is normally required. Universities may ask for the passport information page, passport photograph, nationality declaration, and additional nationality documents in special cases. The passport should remain valid for the period specified by the university and visa authority.

4. Language Proficiency

For Chinese-taught programmes, universities commonly require an appropriate HSK result. The required HSK level and score differ by university and subject. For English-taught programmes, institutions may request IELTS, TOEFL, or another accepted test. Some universities may consider a Medium of Instruction certificate, but this is not accepted automatically by every institution.

5. Personal Statement or Study Plan

A personal statement, study plan, or research proposal may be required. It should clearly explain the applicant’s academic background, reason for selecting China and the chosen programme, study objectives, and future career plan.

6. Recommendation Letters

Master’s and doctoral applicants commonly need academic recommendation letters. The required number, recommender position, format, and submission method are determined by the university or scholarship provider.

7. Foreigner Physical Examination Form

A completed Foreigner Physical Examination Form and relevant medical test reports may be required for a scholarship, visa, registration, or residence-permit process. Applicants should use the correct official form, complete all required examinations, and follow the validity and signature requirements stated by the relevant authority.

8. No-Criminal-Record Certificate

Many universities and scholarship routes request a valid police clearance or no-criminal-record certificate. Translation, notarization, or legalization requirements may differ, so applicants should follow the current document checklist.

9. Proof of Financial Capacity

Self-financed students may need to provide a bank statement, bank deposit certificate, sponsor evidence, or another acceptable form of financial proof. The Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh’s current X1-visa document notice states that self-funded applicants should provide a bank statement demonstrating at least USD 2,500 for each year of study. This is a visa-document threshold stated in that notice, not an estimate of the student’s total tuition and living expenses.

10. Additional Programme-Specific Materials

Depending on the programme, applicants may also need an entrance examination, interview, portfolio, self-introduction video, writing sample, supervisor acceptance, research proposal, published work, or subject-specific test score. Some 2026 admissions and scholarship routes also refer to the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA); students should check whether it applies to their selected university and route rather than assuming it is required everywhere.

Chinese-Taught and English-Taught Programmes

Chinese-Taught Programmes

Applicants must meet the university’s Chinese-language requirement, normally demonstrated through HSK. Some scholarship recipients entering Chinese-taught undergraduate study may be required to complete Chinese-language or preparatory study before beginning the main degree, depending on the scholarship and university rules.

English-Taught Programmes

Applicants must meet the programme’s English requirement. IELTS, TOEFL, or another accepted test may be requested. A programme advertised in English should still be checked carefully for the actual teaching language, course availability, internship language, thesis requirements, and any compulsory Chinese-language courses.

How to Apply to a Chinese University

Students may apply directly through a university’s official international admissions portal, through the official Study in China system where applicable, or through the correct scholarship channel. A typical application process includes:

  • Choose the study level, subject, teaching language, preferred city, and budget.
  • Shortlist universities using their official international admissions websites.
  • Check academic, subject, language, age, health, and nationality requirements.
  • Confirm the application period and whether an entrance examination or interview is required.
  • Prepare clear scans of all required documents and certified translations where necessary.
  • Complete the correct online application and pay any non-refundable application fee.
  • Attend an examination or interview if requested.
  • Receive the admission decision and carefully check every condition.
  • Obtain the official admission letter and Confirmation Form for Study in China, such as JW201 or JW202, when applicable.
  • Prepare the correct X1 or X2 student visa application from Bangladesh.

Applicants can search for institutions and programmes through the official Study in China application portal. Because deadlines are not identical across China, students must follow the date shown by the selected university and scholarship provider.

Popular and Well-Known Universities in China

China has many recognized higher education institutions. The universities below are widely known, but this list is not a ranking and does not mean they are suitable for every applicant:

The right university depends on the applicant’s grades, subject background, language level, programme availability, scholarship eligibility, location preference, and budget. Admission to highly selective universities may involve additional examinations, interviews, or stronger academic requirements.

Scholarships in China for Bangladeshi Students

Eligible Bangladeshi applicants may explore government, university, provincial, municipal, and programme-specific funding opportunities.

1. Chinese Government Scholarship – Type A for Bangladesh

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bangladesh publishes country-specific announcements for the Chinese Government Scholarship administered by the China Scholarship Council. The 2026 Type A announcement invited eligible Bangladeshi applicants for bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and one-year Chinese-language programmes.

According to that 2026 announcement, the scholarship package included full tuition, on-campus accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance, a monthly living allowance of approximately CNY 2,500–3,500 depending on programme level, and international round-trip airfare. Scholarship coverage, categories, quota, nominating procedure, and deadlines can change, so future applicants must follow the notice for their own academic year.

2. Chinese Government Scholarship Through Universities

Some Chinese universities administer CSC scholarship applications through university-specific routes, often using a Type B application category. The applicant must use the correct university agency number and follow both the university’s instructions and the CSC application procedure.

3. University and Local Government Scholarships

Universities, provinces, and cities may offer full or partial scholarships, tuition waivers, accommodation support, or merit awards. Benefits and renewal rules vary. Some awards are reviewed annually based on academic performance, attendance, conduct, and other conditions.

Students should use CampusChina, the official CSC website, and review the current Chinese Embassy scholarship announcement for Bangladeshi applicants. A scholarship should never be considered confirmed until the student receives an official award document.

Tuition Fees and Living-Cost Planning

China does not have one single tuition or living-cost figure for every international student. Costs differ substantially by university, city, programme, study level, teaching language, laboratory or clinical requirements, and accommodation type.

Before accepting an offer, students should calculate the full budget for:

  • University application fee
  • Annual tuition fee
  • On-campus or off-campus accommodation
  • Medical insurance and health examination
  • Visa and residence-permit charges
  • Document translation, notarization, and legalization where required
  • Food, transportation, internet, books, laboratory materials, and personal expenses
  • Flight tickets and emergency funds

Students should rely on the current fee schedule issued by the selected university. A historical national estimate or an unofficial agent’s quotation should not replace the university’s official invoice and offer documents.

China Student Visa Process from Bangladesh

Bangladeshi students must apply for the visa category that matches the duration of the study programme:

  • X1 visa: for study in China for more than 180 days.
  • X2 visa: for short-term study of no more than 180 days.

Step 1: Receive Official Admission Documents

The student should receive the original admission letter and the applicable Confirmation Form for Study in China, normally JW201 or JW202 for higher education, as required by the visa checklist.

Step 2: Prepare Financial and Supporting Evidence

Scholarship students should provide scholarship evidence. Self-funded X1 applicants should prepare the bank statement required by the current Chinese Embassy notice. The visa authority may request additional documents or an interview according to the applicant’s circumstances.

Step 3: Complete the Online Visa Application

Ordinary passport holders in Bangladesh should use the official Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Dhaka. Applicants complete the online process and submit the required documents through the centre according to its current procedure.

Step 4: Submit Documents and Passport

The Visa Application Center accepts applications, collects relevant fees, and returns passports. The Chinese Embassy—not the Visa Application Center—makes the final decision on visa issuance, validity, duration of stay, and number of entries.

Step 5: Travel and Complete Registration

After receiving the visa, students should follow the university’s arrival, dormitory, medical examination, insurance, and registration instructions. They should carry all required original documents in hand luggage rather than placing essential admission and immigration documents only in checked baggage.

For the latest checklist, applicants should read the official Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh visa notice before submission.

Residence Permit After Arrival in China

An X1 visa is used for long-term study entry. A foreign national whose visa requires a residence permit must apply to the local exit-entry administration within 30 days of entry. For a study residence permit, the student normally needs the school’s letter specifying the study period and an admission or enrolment certificate. The university usually provides guidance during registration.

Official details are available from China’s National Immigration Administration.

Can International Students Work While Studying in China?

International students should not assume that a student residence permit provides unrestricted work rights. For off-campus work-study or an internship, the student must obtain the school’s approval and apply to the local exit-entry administration to have the location and duration recorded in the residence permit. Off-campus work or internship without the required approval and residence-permit information is not permitted.
